Indonesia is one of the largest markets for cigarette manufacturers in the world, with more than 60 percent of men smoking.
An Indonesian man has lost six teeth after a cigarette he was smoking reportedly exploded, a media report said on Tuesday. His helmet was also found to have cracked. And that mysterious explosion required numerous stitches for him.
Bekasi Police investigators are waiting on the results of laboratory tests.
Iwan Sulistyo, the marketing chief of the Clas Mild brand by PT Nojorono Tobacco, said the company was perplexed by the explosion.
The cigarette maker said its products did not contain any explosive material. “We are communicating with the police and still waiting on the forensic laboratory tests,” Iwan said in an Interview with The Jakarta Globe. “We do not put any strange materials in the cigarettes so we think that this is a weird case. This is the first time for us.”
Iwan confirmed, however, that the company had agreed to provide compensation and would also ensure that Andi’s medical bills were paid in full.
