There are numerous benefits of smoking giving up and one is that you begin to look younger after you quit. Smoking dehydrates and deoxygenates the skin. Therefore, when you stop smoking, you begin to look brighter. With smoking, lines might begin to appear round the lips and skin. Quitting helps reduce these lines wrinkles and the eyes look brighter.

Your sense of smell and taste also improves a lot after smoking termination. Therefore you’ve got a better eating experience. It helps you cut back on the intake of salt because smokers generally start taking more of these to increase their taste of food. This reduces the probabilities of heart problems and high blood pressure.

Due to the tar and nicotine present in cigarettes, the teeth get stained. Once you quit smoking, your teeth will not be discolored and your breath will start to smell good. Another benefit is that you will not be affected by gum diseases.

Quitting smoking can also help you save a large amount of cash that you can otherwise spend on other pleasures like a vacations, eating out, apparel, shoes and to fade on.

By giving up smoking, you are able to save a lot on your insurance costs too. The difference between life insurance premiums of smokers and non-smokers can go as high as 65%. Many insurance firms charge smokers additional premiums for their home insurance because homes of such folk are more susceptible to catch fire.

Smoking can cause fertility problems in both males and females. It can even cause impotency in men. In women, it increases the time required to conceive. Women smokers may also have to bear with the risks like premature deliveries or physically malformed children. If you continue to smoke after delivering, the newly born could even die.

There are also a number of health benefits of giving up smoking. It reduces the risk of significant illnesses, for example cancer, lingering obstructive pulmonary illness and peripheral vascular disease. It also you’re a lady, the danger of other upsetting issues, including optic neuropathy, cataract, macular degeneration, psoriasis, tooth loss and osteoporosis.

The entire body shape improves for better by giving up smoking. Smoking changes the hormone secreting glands, and therefore smokers amass more fat around their waist and upper body than their hips. This increases the waist-to-hip ratio and so increases the danger of conditions like breast cancers, diabetes, gall obstructive pulmonary illness and heart attacks.

Smoking is an unhealthy psychological support system. Stopping smoking is a very big achievement and apart from the other benefits, it increases the self-esteem and confidence of the individual.

Amid growing evidence that secondhand smoke is causing cancers and possibly a range of other health problems in pets, many groups are intensifying efforts to encourage people to stop smoking — if not for their own sake, then for their animals’.

Veterinarians are redoubling efforts to warn smokers of the dangers to their pets, and smoking-cessation programs, including Utah Tobacco Prevention and Control, Breathe New Hampshire and smokefreesociety.org, have posted fact sheets or printable fliers on their websites. Some groups are sharing information where animal aficionados gather, including at last month’s Dachshund Dash in Oklahoma City, where the Oklahoma County Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition warned of secondhand smoke’s dangers to dogs.

And the ASPCA last month linked up with American Legacy Foundation, a stop-smoking group, to spread the word to the pet lovers of the world.

Studies have shown that toxins in secondhand smoke can cause lung and nasal cancer in dogs and malignant lymphoma in cats.

“The evidence is striking,” says Steven Hansen of the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center.

“Most veterinarians believe pretty strongly secondhand smoke presents a strong danger to dogs and cats with pre-existing respiratory problems,” he says. “And extrapolating, why would you expose a healthy animal?”

Although studies showing strong links between smoking and pets are limited to a few cancers, veterinary oncologist Aarti Sabhlok, who treats 40 or more cancer patients a week at San Francisco Veterinary Specialists, believes an “animal in an environment with constant exposure to a toxin, and that would include cigarette smoke, could be at greater risk of developing tumors.”

It may seem odd to believe that people who continue to smoke despite the risks to themselves and others might pay heed when pets’ health is jeopardized, “but we know people sometimes pay more attention to their pets’ well-being,” Hansen says.

Indeed, a Web-based survey of 3,293 adult pet owners published last year found that 48% were smokers or living with smokers, and 37% said clear evidence that smoking is harmful to their pets would motivate them to quit or ask the people they live with to quit; 14% said such evidence could prompt them to do all their smoking outside.

“We want people to have the facts,” Hansen says. And “if a person needs one more reason to stop smoking, maybe this is it.”

Common gene variants affect how much a person smokes, whether one becomes a smoker, how hard it is to quit, and risk of lung cancer from smoking, new studies find.

The studies, based on genetic information collected by an international consortium from more than 140,000 people of European descent, expand on a 2008 report linking a specific region of the genome to smoking behavior.

Overall, the effects of the genetic variations are small:

A single variation in the part of the genome previously linked to smoking behavior affects how much a person smokes. It increases smoking by one cigarette a day for each gene carrying the variant DNA.

Two newly found gene variants increase smoking by about half a cigarette a day for each gene carrying the variant.

Although the effects on smoking quantity may be small, gene variants appear to play a very large role in whether a smoker gets lung cancer.

In their 2008 study, Thorgeir E. Thorgeirsson of Iceland’s deCODE Genetics and colleagues calculated that gene variants increase a smoker’s risk of lung cancer by 30%.

Now the Thorgeirsson team, in collaboration with University of North Carolina researcher Helena Furberg, PhD, and colleagues, calculate that the newly found gene variants increase a smoker’s odds of getting lung cancer by 10%.

And these aren’t the only genetic effects:

A variation in a different part of the genome appears to make it 6% more likely that a person will take up smoking.

Another gene variant gives a smoker a 12% better chance of quitting smoking than a smoker who doesn’t carry the variation.
Although the findings are interesting, they don’t give smokers any reason to seek genetic testing.

At this time, testing for these variants will not tell you anything meaningful about your risk of smoking or nicotine dependence,” Furberg says in a news release. That may change in the future.

Smoking is bad for anyone’s health. It is even worse for some,” deCODE executive chairman Kari Steffansson says in a news release. “Today’s discoveries continue to strengthen our ability to identify who those people are and give them a compelling additional reason to quit.”

You should stop smoking to have healthy prostate. Prostate health is likely to be affected if you smoking cigarettes or any nicotine containing product.

The studies proved that cigarette smoking increase the risk of prostate cancer.

You should stop smoking to have healthy prostate. Prostate health is likely to be affected if you smoking cigarettes or any nicotine containing product.
The studies proved that cigarette smoking increase the risk of prostate cancer.
There are several hypothetical mechanisms through which cigarette smoking may enhance prostate cancer risk.
For example, cigarette smoking may alter circulating levels of steroid hormones. Smoking has been associated with higher levels of bioavailable testosterone and lower levels of bioavailable estradiol in men.
In addition, cigarettes contain significant levels of cadmium, which has been linked to prostate carcinogenesis. Both of these mechanisms could support an association between cigarette smoking and prostate cancer.

Nicotine is a known carcinogenic i.e. cancer-causing chemical, and ingesting it on a daily basis can have severe effects on both your immune system and many of the systems that make up your body.
While nicotine affects the respiratory system more than the rest of the body, prostate health can also suffer as a result of smoking.
Men who had ever smoked were 66% more likely to have had the prostate cancer, when compared to those who never smoked.
Those who had smoked within the last 10 years had a risk increased by more than two and a half times, while the risk for those who were still smoking was more than three and a half times higher.
The risk of having more advanced disease was also related to the amount of smoking.
Quit Smoking Now!

Men, who quit smoking now, before they are diagnosed with prostate cancer, may improve their chances of having a more curable form of the disease if it arises later on.

Smoking can seriously shorten your life, all by itself. Smoking diminishes health generally

Cigarette smoke consists of a dynamic mixture of more than 5,000 known chemical compounds. These include both highly volatile gaseous and vapour components (called the gas phase) and larger smoke particles (the particulate phase, often referred to as tar.
Some of these compounds have cancer-causing, cardiovascular, respiratory, or other negative health effects.

Many symptoms are the result of smoking such as:
•	Recurrent pneumonia or bronchitis
•	Smokers cough that persist or becomes intense.
•	Persistent chest shoulder, or back pain unrelated to pain from coughing.
•	Loss of appetite
•	Wheezing
•	Neck and facial swelling
•	Fatigue
•	Bone fracture not related to an injury
•	Unexplained weight loss

What are the health consequences of smoking?

The medical consequences of smoking exposure result from effects of both the nicotine itself and how it is taken. Cigarette smoking has been linked to about 90 percent of all lung cancer cases.
In addition to lung cancer, smoking also causes lung diseases such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema, and it has been found to exacerbate asthma symptoms in adults and children. Smoking is also associated with cancers of the mouth, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, cervix, kidney, ureter, and bladder. The overall rates of death from cancer are twice as high among smokers as among non-smokers, with heavy smokers having rates that are four times greater than those of non-smokers.
Relationship between cigarette smoking and coronary heart disease was first reported in the 1940s. Smoking substantially increases the risk of heart disease, including stroke, heart attack, vascular disease, and aneurysm. It is estimated that nearly one-fifth of deaths from heart disease are attributable to smoking.
The second-hand smoke causes lung cancer in adults and greatly increases the risk of respiratory illnesses in children and sudden infant death.

Health Hazards caused by smoking

Children and teens who smoke have more breathing problems, which is detrimental to overall health and physical activity.
Women who smoke generally have earlier menopause. If women smoke cigarettes and also take oral contraceptives, they are more prone to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases than are other smokers.
Pregnant women who smoke cigarettes run an increased risk of having stillborn or premature infants or infants with low birth weight. Children of women who smoked while pregnant have an increased risk for developing conduct disorders.
Statistic is that adults who smoke die about 14 years earlier than adults who do not smoke. For example, in the late 1990s an average of 440,000 Americans died prematurely each year as a result of smoking.
And it is not whole list of health hazards caused by smoking cigarettes.
